France – Temporary employment up in December

Temporary employment in France grew by 13.3% in December compared to the previous year, according to data from Prism’Emploi, the French association of employment agencies.

The data also shows that the industrial sector saw an increase from 6.6% in November 2016 to 12.2% in December 2016. The tertiary sector showed a growth of 14.1% when compared to the previous month. Meanwhile, retail services grew by 11.2%, trade by 7.3% and the dynamics in transport maintained with 22.8%, compared to November 2016. Growth in the construction industry reached 15.2%, compared to November 2016.

The two occupational categories that created the most temporary jobs remain skilled workers (17.4%) and middle managers and intermediate occupations (18.1%) in December.

Prism’Emploi also published annual data showing that all sectors contributed to the development of temporary employment in 2016. The transport sector recorded an increase of 14.3% with a peak of 21.5% in the fourth quarter. The industrial sector, which for almost half of the agency workforce, rose by 5.4%.

In 2016, all regions showed growth in temporary employment. The Pays de la Loire regions grew by 13.7%, followed by Ile de France (11.7%) and Hauts-de-France (9%).
