France – Temporary employment up 6% in May

Temporary employment in France grew by 6.3% in May compared to last year, according to data from Prism’Emploi, the French association of employment agencies.

May’s figures were slightly down from April’s increase of 8.2%. According to Prism’Emploi, May is traditionally affected by bridging between holidays.

Temporary employment grew in all sectors including trade (2.5%), transport (15.0%), services (2.6%), industrial (5.9%) and construction (7.1%), on an annual basis.

In May, temporary employment increased by 7.6% among middle managers and professionals and by 7.5% among skilled workers, over the year. Meanwhile, temporary employment among unskilled workers grew by 6.0% while employees saw an increase of 1.9%, compared to the previous year.

Among the regions, temporary employment in Brittany was up 11.9%, while the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes increased by 11.3% and Bourgogne-Franche-Comté increased by 11.2%, compared to the previous year.

In the first five months of 2017, temporary employment grew by 7.8%.
