Temporary employment in France increased by 6.7% in May 2022 when compared to May 2021, according to data from Prism’Emploi, the French association of employment agencies.

The transport and logistics sector, which has experienced more favourable than average trends over the past three years, recorded a decline in May for the first time since 2020 (-7.2% compared to May 2021).

Meanwhile, the industrial sector edged up by 7.5% in May 2022 compared to May 2021. This increase comes after experiencing a continuous deceleration since the start of the year, dropping from 18.4% in January to 6.4% growth in April.

The trade sector saw an increase of 10.5% over the year.

The services sector saw a gain of 18.4%. This increase over one year is partly explained by the pandemic restrictions in May 2021 which impacted the sector.

Among qualifications, over the year, the creation of temporary jobs jumped by 21.9% for employees (+21.9% over one year). For unskilled blue-collar workers the increase was 2.6% year on year; while skilled blue-collar workers saw an increase of 6.6% over the year. For interim managers and intermediate professions, there was an increase of 4.9% over the year in May.

Four metropolitan regions recorded growth of more than 10%: BourgogneFranche-Comté: +11.4%, Brittany: +17.2 %, Ile-de-France: +12.0% and Occitanie: +11.8%.

In total, for May 2022, temporary employment (temporary work contracts and temporary permanent contracts) amounted to 795,305 full-time equivalents (FTE), up by 50,275 FTE over a year.
