France – Temporary employment growth slows down in July

05 September 2018

The number of temporary workers in France remained steady with an increase of 0.3% year-over-year in July, according to the Barometer report by Prism’Emploi, the French association of employment agencies.

The 0.3% growth was a marked slowdown following temporary employment growth of 2.2% in May and 7.1% in June.

Among the sectors, the construction sector reported growth of 7.2%, followed by services (6.7%) and transport (1.0%). The industrial and trade sectors reported decreases of -2.8% and -2.9%, respectively.

Among occupational categories, the number of temporary staff increased among managers and intermediate professions (3.3%) as well as for employees (2.6%). Temporary employment grew by 0.3% for skilled workers and fell by 1.6% among unskilled workers.

Among the regions, the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes and Pays de la Loire regions each recorded an increase of 3.3% in July. However, the regions of Brittany (-5.3%), Normandy (-2.8%) and Burgundy-Franche-Comté (-2.7%) all reported experiencing a contraction of temporary employment because of a reduction in industrial employment in these regions.
