France – Temporary employment growth rate slows to 5% in April

The performance in April is weaker than the prior months of 2018: January (+8.5%), February (7.3%), March (10.4%). Prism’Emploi state that the deceleration in April follows 42 months of growth.

The transport sector saw an increase of 10.8% over the year in April, while the industrial sector reported growth of 4.9%, the construction sector 4.7% and services 4.4%. The trade sector reported a decrease of 1.2% in April, year-on-year.

All professional temporary staffing categories reported year-on-year growth in April. Managers and intermediate professions reported growth of 5.7%, followed by 5.2% for unskilled workers, 4.9% for employees and 4.7% for skilled workers.

By region, the Occitanie and Normandy regions reported decreases in their temporary workforce in April with a decrease of -0.7% and -1.4%, respectively. In contrast, temporary work in Center-Val de Loire and Burgundy-Franche-Comté, reported growth of 9.8% and 11.8%, in April, respectively.

In the first four months of 2018, temporary employment has grown 7.8% when compared to the first four months of 2017.
