France – Temporary employment down 3.4% in May, according to Prism’Emploi

The number of temporary workers in France decreased by 3.4% year-over-year in May 2019, according to the latest Barometer report by Prism’Emploi, the French association of employment agencies.

The 3.4% decrease is in line with the Barometer’s trends observed since the beginning of the year (-4.1% on average).

The decrease in temporary workers is characterised by marked differences among the sectors. Temporary employment was up in the building and public works sector (15.5%) and services (5.5%), but continues to decline in trade (-2.1%), industry (-7.6%) and transport (-13.5%).

Among occupational categories, temporary employment continued to grow among executives and intermediate professions (1.1%). However, it declined among unskilled workers (-3.5%), skilled workers (-4.2%) and employees (-7.0%).

Among the regions, Brittany saw growth in temporary employment increase (1.7%) in May, followed by a slight increase in the Occitanie region (0.6%) while the rest of the regions reported decreases.
