France – Temporary employment decreases in September, third quarter remains stagnant

The number of temporary workers in France decreased by 1.7% in September year-on-year, according to the Barometer report by Prism’Emploi, the French association of employment agencies.

Meanwhile, Prism’Emploi found that the third quarter of 2018 showed a stagnation (0%) in the growth of temporary workers.

The construction and services sectors reported growth in September of 6.4% and 6.2%, respectively. The industrial sector recorded a 5.8% slip which is the third consecutive month that the sector reported a decrease. Meanwhile, the trade and transport sectors reported a decrease of 1.1% and 3.1%, respectively.

In terms of qualification, managers and intermediate professions and employees continue to progress with respectively + 1.2% and + 0.2%. 

Temporary employment declined among skilled workers (-0.8%) and unskilled workers (-4.4%) during September.

Among occupational categories, the number of temporary staff increased among managers and intermediate professions, up 1.2%, as well as for employees, up 0.2%, in September.

In September, the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region showed growth of 4.8% in September, followed by Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes (3.0%) and Ile-de-France (0.3%).
