France – Temp employment up in August

Temporary employment in France grew by 8.3% in August compared to last year, according to data from Prism’Emploi, the French association of employment agencies.

Prism’Emploi states that on a cumulative basis, since the beginning of the year, temporary work has increased by 8.1% and is continuing its contribution to improving the labor market.

Temporary employment rose year-on-year in most sectors including transport (16.6%), industry (8.9%), services (6.9%) and trade (5.8 %). However temporary employment remained stable in the construction sector (0.0%). Prism’Empoi stated that August was an atypical month and that September will provide more clarity in regards to the construction sector.

Meanwhile, intermediate executives and occupations (13.4%) are driving temporary employment growth, year-on-year. Temporary employment growth stood at 11.8% for employees, and also grew for workers (7.6%) and skilled workers (5.6%).

Among the regions, with the highest growth in the number of temporary workers, Brittany leads the way (15.1%), followed by Burgundy-Franche-Comté (14.5%), and New-Aquitaine (11.9%).
