France — Slight improvement in the temporary employment market

16 September 2009

According to the latest figures published by the French Association of Temporary Employment Agencies (PRISME), the year-on-year decline in the temporary employment sector has slowed.

Quoting Prisme figures Francois Beharel, Head of Randstad France told newspaper La Tribune, "in the first half of 2009 sales had decreased by 36% compared to 2008. This Summer the decline was no more than 25%. This shows an annual decline (so far) of 29.5% while the number of hours has decreased by 31%.

Bart Gianotten of Investor Relations at Randstad said, "the trend is slightly positive but the decline is still very high."

Beharel says further, "we are doing better in the automotive industry in France due to the stimulation measures by the French government. The construction sector is also stabilising, mainly due to a number of major projects funded by the government."
