France – Prism’Emploi: Number of temporary workers up 7.1% in June, first half of 2018 reports increase of 6.7%

The number of temporary workers in France rose by 7.1% year over year in June, according to the Barometer report by Prism’Emploi, the French association of employment agencies.

All sectors reported growth. Services, construction and industry rose by 10.6%, 10.3% and 4.7%, respectively.

Among occupational categories, skilled workers reported 7.2% growth while unskilled workers reported 4.8% during the period.

Among sectors, transport saw the biggest increase at 12.2% when compared to last year. This was followed by services (10.6%) and construction (10.3%)

Among the regions, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes reported the biggest increase with 12.4%, followed by Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur( 9.6%) and Pays de la Loire (8.8%).

Prism’Emploi also reported figures for the first half of 2018 with a reported slowdown in the growth of temporary work when compared to the same period last year. Average growth stood at 6.7%. Monthly developments in the first half of the year ranged from 2.2% to 10.4%. The high point came in March with 10.4% growth.

On average, the transport sector reported 14.6% growth in the first half of the year when compared to last year. Services (6.7%) and industrial (6.0%) followed. 

Meanwhile, Prism’Emploi reported that five regions stood out with growth ranging between 8.0% and 12.0% in the first half: Grand-Est with 9.1%, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté with 12.3%, Center-Val de Loire with 8.2 %, Pays de la Loire with 9.3% and Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes with 9.2%.
