France – Number of temporary workers up 13.1% in July

At the end of July 2017, the number of temporary workers was 763,300 in seasonally adjusted terms, an increase of 13.1% compared to the previous year, according to figures from Pôle Emploi.

The industrial sector saw an increase of 9.7% in July when compared to the previous year. Meanwhile construction (17.8%) and tertiary (14.6%) also saw annual increases.

Among the regions, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté (23,8%), Grand Est (19,2%) and Brittany (19%), saw the biggest annual increases in temporary employment.

Meanwhile, over the year, all socio-professional categories saw their temporary workforce increase:  14.5% for skilled workers, 14.2% for employees, 12.2% for managers and intermediate occupations and 11.1% for unskilled workers.

Eurostat figures showed that employment in France grew by 1.0% in the second quarter, when compared to the same period last year.
