France – Number of temporary workers up 11.5% in April

The number of temporary workers in France increased by 11.5% at the end of April 2018, when compared to the same period last year according to data from Pôle Emploi.

There were 87,400 more temporary workers in April 2018 when compared to the previous year.

Among the sectors, the construction sector reported the biggest increase in April with a 14.2% uptick in the number of temporary workers when compared to the same period last year. This was followed by the agriculture, forestry, fishing sector (13.0%), Industry (11.1%) and Tertiary (10.7%).

The Pays de la Loire region led all regions with the biggest year-on-year growth in temporary workers at 14.9% in April. This was followed by Bourgogne Franche-Comté at 14.8%.

During the same period, among professional categories, the number of unskilled workers increased by 12.7% while employees increased by 11.0% and skilled workers saw an increase of 10.1%.  Managers and intermediate professions reported a year-on-year increase of 8.2%.
