France – Number of temporary workers rises in March

The number of temporary workers in February increased by 1.5% compared to the previous month, according to Pôle Emploi. Compared to same period last year, the number of temporary workers increased by 11%.

The total number of temporary workers on a seasonally adjusted basis stood at 655,300.

Compared to the same time last year, temporary workers increased the most in the industrial sector which rose by 2.8%. This was followed by the tertiary sector (2.2%). Meanwhile, construction saw its number of temporary workers fall by 2.9%.

Year-on-year, the number of temporary workers increased more for men (11.3%) than for women (9.5%).

Year-on-year, all professional categories have their temporary workers increase: + 13.7% for skilled workers, 12.6% for middle management and professions, 8.6% for unskilled workers and 6.1% for employees.

Over a month, temporary employment increased in 7 regions with the Nord-Pas-de-Calais and Picardy region recording the largest increase (+ 8.5%).
