France – Number of temporary workers falls

The number of temporary workers in February fell by 1.7% compared to the previous month, according to French job centre Pôle Emploi. Compared to the February 2015, the number of temporary workers increased by 7.2%.

The total number of temporary workers on a seasonally adjusted basis was 643,400.

Among the sectors, the tertiary sector saw a decline of 2.5% when compared to the previous year. The construction sector saw a fall of 3.3% in the number of temporary workers. Meanwhile, in the industrial sectors, the number of temporary workers fell by 0.5%.

Year-on-year, all professional categories saw their temporary workers increase with a 9.9% increase for skilled workers, 9.2% for middle management and professions and 4.2% for unskilled workers. The number of temporary workers increased more for men (7.9%) than for women (4.5%).

Among the regions, the Pays de la Loire recorded the largest increase at 1.9%.
