France — Number of new jobs advertised on the web up by 6%

19 August 2009

According to the latest statistics published by monster.fr, the French subsidiary of monster.com, the number of jobs advertised on the internet was up by 6% in July 2009 compared to the previous month. This follows two consecutive months of negative growth (-1% in June, -12% in May).

Bruno Bremond, Director at monster.fr, said to Capital magazine "this development could be the start of a slowdown in reduced job offers. It is due to two factors: The growth in demand for administrative positions and the continued recruitment in the public sector."

"The health sector, social services and the leisure industry are equally bouncing back. The only area with negative growth is the traditionally strong sector of manager recruitment. The strongest growth was in the recruitment of unqualified labourers."

Bruno Bremond adds a note of caution "these figures are not a guarantee that the crisis is over. The number of job offers has fallen by 36% over the last 12 months and the Minister for Labour, Xavier Darcos, has announced that he expects to see higher unemployment figures over the next few months."
