France – Employment duration for temp workers up by 15%

20 March 2017

The employment duration of temporary workers in France has increased by 15% in 2016, compared to the previous year. The number has been increasing since a collective bargaining agreement signed in 2014.

According to Prism’ Emploi, the agreement called the Securitization of Interims Fund (FSPI), is dedicated to financing training and support measures for the temporary careers of temporary employees. Further data shows that the FSPI made it possible to finance 110,000 training actions for 90,000 temporary employees in 2015 and 2016. Moreover, in 2016 alone, the total number of training sessions paid by the fund was 67,000.

Further study by Prism’ Emploi also showed that the socio-demographic profile of CDI intérimaires (temporary workers with a permanent contract with the temp agency) tends to be closer to the traditional temp workers, who are not paid between assignments and are not permanent employees of the temp agency, with the majority being between the ages of 25 and 39. However, the traditional temp worker’s level of qualification is lower (51.5% of unskilled workers).

The research also showed that the number of CDI intérimaires doubled in 2016, to reach 10,000. Meanwhile, there were 15,351 interim contracts signed as at 28 February 2017.
