France – A third of executives plan to resign to become freelancers (Courrier Cadres)

22 January 2020

A third, or 33%, of executives in France plan to resign to become freelancers, reports Courrier Cadres, citing a study from the French Institute of Public Opinion for French online staffing group Freelance.com. The study showed that 77% of executives have a ‘very good’ opinion of self-employment with 17% of them already having resigned to become freelancers. Claude Tempé, Vice President of Freelance.com said this implies that this freelance which was “decried ten years ago, is now positively perceived by at least 1.5 million managers.” The executives who turn to freelancing come from all sectors. “More and more, in a professional career, going through a moment of freelance status is no longer a problem at all. It is one step among others in the career,” Tempé said. Meanwhile, when it comes to the 33% who have not yet turned to freelancing, Tempé said this is “Because of the feeling of risk represented by independence, the fear that is potentially justified for some people not to find income equivalent to that which they receive in business, and the fear of not being covered socially (Social security, mutual insurance, unemployment).”
