Europe – SIA and WEC launch new European Employment Barometer

20 March 2019

Staffing Industry Analysts (SIA), the global advisor on staffing and workforce solutions, and the World Employment Confederation (WEC), the trade association for the private employment industry at a global level, have announced the launch of the European Employment Barometer, an interactive new research tool that covers key labour market indicators across 33 countries.

The Barometer, which is a joint initiative between SIA and the World Employment Confederation, is designed to enable users to filter, sort and download selected graphs, statistics and pertinent insights related to the employment situation and agency work in Europe.

With real-time data compiled from Eurostat’s most recent labour market survey, along with findings provided via European staffing associations, the tool can be used to track data and market trends over time and for specific geographies. The Barometer issues each quarter and captures latest Eurostat releases, along with historic data from Q2 2016 to present.

“We’re delighted to curate this unique data set with our partners at the WEC,” John Nurthen, Executive Director of Global Research at SIA, said. “It is an invaluable tool for those interested in keeping up-to-date with labour trends across Europe, especially those relating to temporary work.”

The provided metrics can also be used to correlate indicators with economic factors to illustrate relationships between economic trends and temporary agency work; and to compare cross sections of specific data.

“This new tool builds on the joint expertise of SIA and of WEC’s national federation members on labour markets. It helps to derive an understanding of drivers and relevant activity in the European staffing, recruitment and workforce solutions industry and demonstrates how the staffing industry’s development is closely correlated to the economic situation,” Denis Pennel, Managing Director of the World Employment Confederation, said.

The European Employment Barometer is available as part of SIA’s research, as well as via the ‘Free Resources’ section of SIA's website and via the WEC website.
