Dutch temporary staffing hours edges downward, but turnover rises

The Dutch temporary employment sector saw a decline in hours but an increase in turnover during the 13th period of 2023 (week 49 – 52, 4 December to 31 December 2023), according to the Dutch Federation of Private Employment Agencies (ABU).

The number of hours decreased by 7% and turnover increased by 5% compared to the same period last year. Because this period had one workable day less than the same period last year, a correction has been applied.

In the administrative sector, the number of hours fell by 17% and turnover fell by 3% compared to the same period last year.

Meanwhile, in the industrial sector, the number of hours decreased by 3% and turnover increased by 9% compared to the same period last year.

Across the technical sector, the number of hours decreased by 4% and turnover increased by 9% compared to the same period last year.

ABU also published annual figures which showed that the temporary employment sector in the Netherlands shrank in hours and turnover in 2023 compared to 2022. In 2023 there was one workable day less than in 2022, for which a correction has been applied.

By sector, the administrative sector recorded a decrease of 23% in hours and a decrease of 8% in turnover compared to 2022.

In the industrial sector, the ABU reported a decrease of 9% in hours and an increase of 2% in turnover compared to 2022.

In the technical sector, the ABU saw decrease of 10% in hours and an increase of 2% in turnover compared to 2022.
