Belgium — One out of five wants to change job but is frightened to do so

15 October 2010

New research carried out by InSites Consulting on behalf of staffing agency Tempo Team (part of Randstad) among 326 employees shows that one out of five workers wants to find a new job but hesitates to do so.

The prime motivator for changing job is the salary level (39%) followed by job opportunities (16%) and professional development (15%).

Tempo Team comments "this indicates that workers have regained confidence in the labour market and want to try their lack somewhere else after the years of economic crisis, corporate cut-backs and stagnating wages."

However, 52% of workers believe that a new employer will not necessarily be better than the current one and 20% are not sure if they can get a better or equivalent salary. 13% shy away from the efforts of finding a new job and 7% believe that they would have to work harder in a new job.

The most attractive sectors mentioned were the media, entertainment and communication industry (29%), the public sector (28%), banks and financial institutions (23%), the energy and environment sector (23%) and healthcare (22%).
