Austria – Number of temporary workers increases by 5.2% in 2016

27 January 2017

The temporary employment sector in Austria grew by 5.2% in 2016 when compared to 2015 according to data from staffing firm, Trenkwalder.

"Temporary work played an important role as a job creator last year,” Klaus Lercher, CEO of Trenkwalder, said.

In 2016 there were 79,000 more temporary workers than in the previous year. The increase in temporary work was primarily driven by the health care and automotive sector.

"We look forward to significant growth in virtually all provinces and industries," Lercher said.

“Almost half of those employed in temporary work came from unemployment,” Lercher said.  “This alone shows the success and the importance of effective temporary work for the labour market."
