APSCo calls for stability in wake of UK Cabinet reshuffle

14 November 2023

The Association of Professional Staffing Companies has called for stability following the recent Cabinet reshuffle in the UK.

“Clearly the prime minister’s reshuffle is driven by a need for change as we near the end of 2023 and an election looming,” Tania Bowers, global public policy director at APSCo said in a press release. “While we can’t yet comment on how successful these changes will be, given the current economic climate and the range of challenges facing the country, APSCo implores the government to strive for stability.”

Bowers warned the potential impact of the changes on business.

“Under the conservatives, we have already seen multiple new prime ministers, legislative reforms and U-turns, and other disruption,” she said. “The impact of such uncertainty on businesses is significant, particularly at a time when we’re already experiencing difficulties ranging from a skills crisis to navigating the new world of work post-Covid. The UK needs to focus on strengthening its reputation as a country that supports business growth, and that starts with stability.”

Bowers continued, “We’ve seen some positive wins for APSCo’s lobbying teams recently with rolled up holiday pay now legalised, for example, but these developments are at risk if continued uncertainty remains in Parliament. Next year must be the time to focus on reducing inflation, sustaining business profits and investing in skills. But the government needs to lead the charge on a united front.”
