SIA Covers Impact of a No-Deal Brexit on Contingent Staffing

Mountain View, California & London, UK — October 1, 2019 — Staffing Industry Analysts (SIA), the global advisor on staffing and workforce solutions, has released a report on No-Deal Brexit – Implications for Contingent Staffing. The report outlines the impact for staffing firms and buyers of contingent staff of the UK leaving the EU without an agreement as to the terms of its withdrawal.

According to the UK government, the UK will leave the European Union (EU) on 31 October 2019 with or without a deal. The government's stated policy is to negotiate a withdrawal agreement. If that happens, there is little change to the 'status quo' as the UK and EU will enter into a transition period that is scheduled to end no earlier than 31 December 2020.

As the deadline for “Brexit” approaches and it looks increasingly likely the UK government will be unable to reach an agreement with the EU over the terms of leaving, it is important for businesses in the workforce solutions ecosystem to be aware of the implications and prepare for the impact of a ‘no-deal’ Brexit.

The report covers the effect on freedom of movement for workers; the impact on data transfers of the UK becoming a “third country”; and the steps businesses should take to mitigate any disruption to their operations in the event of a no-deal Brexit on 31st October 2019.

“There is a great deal of uncertainty around the UK’s withdrawal from the EU at this time,” said Fiona Coombe, SIA’s Director of Legal and Regulatory Research. “With this report we have outlined the ways in which staffing firms and buyers may be impacted and the steps that can be taken now to prepare. These include reviewing and revising contracts to enable data transfers to continue and to allow for potential disruption to services.”

The full report No-Deal Brexit – Implications for Contingent Staffing is available for SIA Corporate and CWS Council Members.
