The Press of Atlantic City, N.J. reports that a fruit broker will pay more than $600,000 in back wages to workers employed through a staffing firm. For the story, click here.
It is deplorable that unscruptulous staffing agencies like Heng Heng violate the law and their clients have to suffer the consequences. Reputable agencies who follow the law are underpriced by these agencies because they are not paying employees properly and therfore can do the job for less. If it sounds too good to be true, it is. My suggestion to companies seeking to use staffing agencies is to use agencies who are part of a national association such as ASA, the American Staffing Association. The ethics and training we receive as members costs us, but it is invaluable.
