The number of jobs advertised in Switzerland increased by +22% during August, compared with the same month last year, according to the Swiss Job Index (SJI) from international recruitment firm Michael Page.
The SJI is a monthly indicator of the number and types of jobs advertised in Switzerland. The data for the report is collated on the 15th of each month.
The strong year-on-year growth can be attributed to an increase of +27% in Real Estate job vacancies. Other sectors reporting growth were the Metal Industry (+19.3%), Insurance (+13.2%), Medical Technologies (+12.6%) Tourism (+12.4%), and Marketing & Communications (+3.2%).
The number of jobs advertised in August fell by -0.8%, compared with July, despite a month-on-month increase of +4.4% in the number of jobs advertised in the financial services sector and an increase of +7.8% in the number of tourism vacancies.
There was also an increase of +2.7% in the number of jobs advertised in the Insurance industry, and a rise of +2.2% in the Medical Technologies sector. Real Estate job vacancies increase, month-on-month by +5.2%.
The only two sectors identified by the SJI as having reported a month-on-month decline in job advertisements were the Metal Industry (-3.8%) and Marketing & Communications (-3.1%).
According to the survey, 85.7% of the advertised jobs were in the German speaking part of Switzerland, 13.4% were located in the West of the country, and 0.9% in Ticino, Switzerland’s southernmost canton.
