Right Management survey finds 86% to seek new jobs in 2015

December 19, 2014

More North American employees plan to actively pursue new job opportunities in 2015 than planned to in 2014, according to a poll by Right Management, a division of ManpowerGroup Inc. (NYSE: MAN). A Right Management survey found that 86 percent of the workers surveyed said they intend to actively seek a new position in 2015, up from 83 percent who said so in a similar survey a year ago.

The 2015 percentage of employees who plan to look for new jobs remains up from the heart of the recession. Just 60 percent of employees said they would actively seek a new job in 2009.

The poll found 5 percent of employees intend to stay in their current position, while 8 percent indicated they would opportunistically make a change in 2015 and are already networking. The latest findings are consistent with results from the last five years.

Right Management reports the high percentage of individuals planning to seek new career opportunities indicates a workforce that is dissatisfied with their careers.

“Our data should serve as a call to action for managers and leaders who want to retain their top talent,” said Bram Lowsky, Right Management executive VP and global leader of career management. “The improving economy brings about a renewed job confidence, which results in increased interest in career mobility. This requires employers to rethink how they motivate and challenge their employees to keep them engaged. Creating a culture of career development is critical for engaging and retaining top talent and preventing them from leaving for the competition. Individuals want to stay when they feel they have opportunities to grow, learn and advance their careers.”

The online survey included 665 employees in the US and Canada and ran from Nov. 7 to Dec. 11, 2014.
