Poland – Job numbers up +8.5% as economic recovery takes hold

09 July 2014

There was an increase of +8.5% in the number of jobs posted on Polish job board Pracuj during the second quarter of 2014, compared with the same period last year. A total of 97,698 jobs were posted during the three months.

The greatest demand for staff came from the trade and retail sector, representing a fifth of all advertised jobs; followed by banking, finance & insurance (16%) and telecommunications & technology (9%). Demand for telecommunications & technology, however, fell by -18 percentage points (pp) compared with the same period last year.

The strongest increase in demand was for HR specialists and real estate agents, increasing by +28pp and +25pp compared with Q2 2013.

Demand for workers in the logistics industry increased during Q2 2014, rising by +18pp compared with the previous quarter. Year-on-year the number of logistics jobs increased by a third. The rapid increase in demand for workers in this sector reflects the improving economic situation in Poland.

Przemyslaw Gacek, CEO of Pracuj, commented: “Much evidence suggests that the situation is improving for jobseekers, quarter-on-quarter, and certainly is much better than last year. Companies are investing more boldly and therefore,  looking for new people to work. Now, more and more employers are looking for engineers and builders.”

“The increase in permanent placements underscores the recovery in the economy. There has been an increase in the number of listings in the transport and logistics sector, which in the second quarter was primarily looking for specialists in shipping, transport & fleet management, sales, and drivers. Such a broad demand for workers shows that companies have more orders and are thus rapidly increase their teams.”

“More and more companies are beginning to invest in workers for supporting departments, such as marketing or PR. Companies do not invest in the development of these teams during the downturn, so such a large increase in the number of tenders for these professionals, especially for communication, shows that the situation is so good that companies are starting to think about their long-term strategy, not just increasing their sales teams on an ad-hoc basis,” he added.
