List ranks largest US staffing firms; here are top five

July 09, 2014

Staffing Industry Analysts today released its list of largest U.S. staffing firms, which included 124 staffing firms with U.S. staffing and talent engagement revenue of more than $100 million.

The five largest firms in the U.S. by 2013 staffing and talent engagement revenue are:

  1. Allegis Group, $8.75 billion
  2. Adecco, $4.40 billion
  3. Randstad Holding, $4.37 billion
  4. ManpowerGroup $3.83 billion
  5. Kelly Services, $3.43 billion

The 124 firms on the list generated $74.1 billion in U.S. staffing and talent engagement revenue, which comprised 54.5 percent of the total market.

Talent engagement revenue is defined as Professional Employer Organization (PEO) net revenue, Recruitment Process Outsourcing (RPO) revenue, payrolling net revenue, online staffing revenue and managed service provider (MSP) fee revenue.

“The 124 firms that qualified for this year’s report represents the highest number since the boom year of 2000 when 128 firms met the threshold,” said Timothy Landhuis, senior research analyst for Staffing Industry Analysts. “Both the large number of firms, as well as the $74.1 billion of revenue, underscore the record level of demand for staffing and talent engagement services in the U.S. economy.”

Landhuis also noted no firm on the list holds more than 6 percent market share, and the majority of firms have less than 0.2 percent of the total market.

“This highlights the fragmented nature of the U.S. staffing and talent engagement industry, where demand has led to the evolution of a variety of niche staffing firm strategies,” he said. “It also outlines the opportunity that exists for individual firms to grow their market share.”
