Japan - Staffing agencies provide foreign workers to meet labour shortages

24 November 2015

As the number of international visitors to Japan increases, the demand for foreign employees has risen and temporary staffing agencies are working to fill that need.

The number of foreign travelers who have visited Japan this year reached 14.48 million in September, up 49 % from the same time last year, which has led to the need for foreign workers to help with the requirements of foreign customers.

Pasona, a Japanese staffing firm, plans to launch a staffing service, in spring of 2016 at the earliest, to provide companies with temporary foreign employees.

Tempstaff Co. has already placed Chinese-speaking staff in Japanese companies in April earlier this year to help meet those demands.

Koichi Takeuchi, 41, the president of recruitment agency Globalpower Inc. (Tokyo), told The Japan News that “foreign students and Japanese people’s spouses from overseas will not be enough to handle the increased demand for foreign employees.”

Globalpower specializes in non-Japanese staffing.

Takeuchi plans to petition the Japanese government to issue work visas to foreigners working in sales.
