France – Temporary worker numbers up in Q2

At the end of the second quarter 2014, there were 541,900 temporary workers in France, an increase of +2.6% compared with Q1 2014, according to the Ministry of Labour. The Statistical Directorate of the Ministry (Dares) identified 14,000 more workers in June, compared with the previous quarter.

Growth during Q2 stemmed from the industrial sector, which reported an increase of +3.2% during Q2 compared with Q1, equating to 7,400 more jobs; and the services sector, which grew by +4%, quarter-on-quarter, also creating an additional 7,400 temporary jobs.

The construction sector, reported a decline of -1.1%, equating to 1,200 temporary jobs, during Q2 compared with Q1 2014.

During the second quarter the number of temporary work contracts increased by +0.7% against Q1; however, the average duration per contract fell by -3.2% to 1.7 weeks.
