Brazil – Temporary job numbers up in the run up to Easter

30 March 2015

Brazilian companies have created an estimated 84,400 temporary jobs in the run up to Easter. Of those jobs, approximately 14,000 are still available, according to figures from Sindeprestem (Trade Union of Outsourced and Temporary Employment Services for São Paulo) and Fenaserhtt (Trade Union of Human Resources, Temporary Work, and Outsourcing Companies).

Most of the people hired for the seasonal peak in activity will work for between 61 and 90 days.

Maria Olinda Maran Longuini, Communications Director for Sindeprestem, commented: “The labour market is facing a serious shortage of skilled labour, which makes training a necessity. Temporary workers, even if they don’t realise it, take this professional training with them; which can, in the near future, open doors for employment.”

Vander Morales, President of Sindeprestem and Fenaserhtt, agrees: “Temporary work acts as stabilising force in employment, especially in times of economic uncertainty. To promote and facilitate the meeting between candidates and job opportunities.”

“Temporary work is an opportunity (for the unemployed) to return to the labour market… For young people it is a way to take advantage of the opportunity to experiment, adding knowledge and opportunity for personal and professional growth,” Mr Morales added.
