Talent Groups acquires Abacus Technical Services and The InSource Group

Talent Groups, a Houston-based IT staffing provider, acquired Abacus Technical Services and The InSource Group. Both firms are based in Dallas and provide IT staffing. With the deals, Talent Groups aims to expand its services across industries.

“The expertise and resources brought by Abacus and The InSource Group will enable us to deliver even greater value and expand our services across industries,” Talent Groups CEO Matthew Ripaldi said in a press release.

Abacus acquired The Insource Group in 2021. Steve Gunner leads both firms as CEO.

“We are confident that our integration into the comprehensive service platform will unlock new growth opportunities for our internal employees, consultants and candidates and will provide our clients with a broader global delivery engine,” Gunner said in a press release.

He will remain with the company and join its senior leadership team.

Both Abacus Technical Services and The InSource Group will take on the Talent Groups name.

“This consolidation of our brands will enable us to pool our expertise and resources, providing an even stronger platform to serve our clients and support our consultants and candidates,” Gunner said.

The deal closed in the third quarter, Talent Groups said in a note to SIA. The company said factors driving the deal included shared cultural alignment, an experience leadership team, high-performing sales and recruiting teams, numerous marque clients and a strong local footprint in the Dallas market.

Terms of the transaction were not announced.

Talent Groups is a new brand that was announced in September. It’s the unified brand from Talent Group, Queen Consulting and EdgeLink. The company announced the acquisition of Boston-based IT staffing firm Queen Consulting earlier this year. It announced the acquisition of Portland, Oregon-based IT staffing provider EdgeLink in January 2022.

Osceola Capital, a Tampa, Florida-based private equity firm, announced the formation of the company, then known under the old brand Talent Group, in 2018 when it acquired IT staffing firms Deegit Inc. and Mercom Group. The company then named Ripaldi, a former Adecco executive, as CEO in 2021.

“Following the acquisition of Queen Consulting Group and EdgeLink, [Abacus and The InSource Group] marks our fifth acquisition since our initial investment in 2018,” Michael Babb, chairman of Osceola Capital, said in a press release. “We continue to partner with high-quality complementary firms to further expand our platform while enabling them to scale rapidly and better support their client base.”
