Tech workers moving from traditional hubs to ‘Zoom towns’ (MSN)

The pandemic is likely shifting the tech jobs landscape away from traditional tech hubs in the US to midsize, more affordable cities dubbed “Zoom towns,” according to a story by MSN that cites a report from the Brookings Institute. Large city tech hubs such as San Francisco; Seattle; and Austin, Texas made up nearly half the US’ tech job growth between 2015 and 2019. However, the major tech centers saw their growth slow during the first year of the pandemic. Meanwhile midsize cities such as Cincinnati and Minneapolis have experienced significant growth. These midsize town were referred to as “Zoom towns” in the Brookings report, though the report noted it’s unclear if the trend will continue.
