Aya acquires Polaris AI, a platform that predicts patient volume and staffing levels

Aya Healthcare, the largest US healthcare staffing provider, acquired Polaris AI, a machine learning platform that predicts future patient volume and staffing levels in clinical settings.

“This acquisition further bolsters our AI capabilities and expands our ability to help healthcare organizations achieve cost savings through optimized core labor staffing,” Alan Braynin, president and CEO of Aya Healthcare, said in a press release.

Polaris AI facilitates accurate predictions of case volumes, enabling healthcare organizations to optimize staffing levels, according to Aya. It aims to provide savings on both physician and nurse costs, increase staff retention and improve patient care and satisfaction.

“Polaris’ sophisticated predictions have been proven to help staffing managers accurately deploy talent, especially for care areas with high variability such as operating rooms and emergency departments,” Mark Dose, chief operating officer at Polaris AI, said in a press release. Dose will retain the COO title going forward.

Based in Nashville, Tennessee, Polaris AI was developed by SwitchPoint Ventures, a creator of AI-driven business solutions.

The deal closed July 7. Terms of the transaction were not announced.

This deal follows Aya’s announcement last month that it acquired Flexwise Health, which offers technology to forecast gaps in patient demand and staffing levels. Aya reported the products are complementary solutions.
