CVS hiring 15,000 as it ups capacity for flu season, Covid increase

Drugstore and pharmacy operator CVS Health Corp. reported it is ramping up capacity to handle an expected increase in Covid-19 as well as the flu season by hiring more than 15,000 new workers. Of those, more than 10,000 of the roles are for full- and part-time licensed pharmacy technicians, the Woonsocket, Rhode Island-based company said.

The 10,000 pharmacy technicians will be hired on a temporary basis with the possibility of becoming permanent.

“Additional team members typically are needed every flu season,” said Lisa Bisaccia, chief human resources officer at CVS Health. “However, we’re estimating a much greater need for trained pharmacy technicians this year given the continued presence of Covid-19 in our communities.

Other on-site roles that are part of the recruiting effort include pharmacists, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, member benefit case professionals and distribution center employees.

CVS is also recruiting for several thousand work-from-home customer service representatives.

The hiring of 15,000 is in addition to the 50,000 that the company announced in March that it planned to hire.
