Belcan acquires software engineering services firm

Engineering consulting and staffing provider Belcan LLC acquired Avista Inc., a provider of software engineering services to OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) in the aerospace, defense, industrial and medical industries.

Avista is being sold by TransDigm Group as part of its portfolio optimization efforts following the acquisition of Esterline Technologies in 2019. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Avista President Steven Ungs and the company’s management team will join Belcan.

The acquired firm provided software engineering, verification and validation services, and certification support to aerospace, defense, industrial and medical companies as well as government and military organizations. Headquartered in Platteville, Wisconsin, Avista also has facilities in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Blaine, Minnesota.

Launched in 1987, Avista has completed more than 1,500 software projects with aerospace and defense companies as well as government and military organizations.

“Avista and its engineers will add greater technical depth to Belcan’s Systems and Software Engineering Group and provide us with a larger footprint in the Midwest,” said Belcan CEO Lance Kwasniewski

Cincinnati-based Belcan supplies engineering, technical recruiting, and IT services to the aerospace, defense, industrial, and government services markets. It is a portfolio company of private equity firm AE Industrial Partners and ranks seventh on Staffing Industry Analysts’ list of the largest engineering staffing firms in the US.
