Word of the week: Co-employment risk

February 25, 2020

Co-employment risk has been an issue in the contingent workforce ecosystem for a long time, but recently co-employment risk has come up in conversations about term limits for continent workers.

SIA Senior Managing Editor Sharon Thomas recently discussed term limits as they relate to co-employment risk and misperceptions about that relationship in a blog post in The Staffing Stream.

And this week’s Staffing Word of the Week is “co-employment risk.”

SIA’s online Lexicon defines it as: “The specific legal and financial risk to employers arising from co-employment situations. These risks can include, but are not limited to, pay, benefits or unemployment claims; discrimination claims; harassment claims; and, within the United States, workers compensation claims. Many experts view co-employment risk as a fact of life, particularly in dealing with contingent workers and staffing agencies.”
