With clinician crisis pay at highs, ‘bill rate’ is Staffing Word of the Week

November 09, 2021

Bill rates — particularly the high rates being paid for travel nurses — was one topic discussed at last week’s Healthcare Staffing Summit in Boston. An executive panel raised concerns healthcare staffing firms are being scapegoated for the high bill rates as some nurses are seeing crisis rate pay of $150 per hour. Some groups such as the California Hospital Association have already asked regulators to look into the rates.

Bill rate is also this week’s word of the week.

Staffing Industry Analysts’ Lexicon defines bill rate as:

“The amount the buyer of staffing services is expected to pay the agency inclusive of the pay, statutory expenses, benefits and agency markup.”

The Lexicon is available free online and includes terms from across the workforce solutions ecosystem.
