Washington DC City Council passes bill to prohibit firing over marijuana use (NPR)

June 08, 2022

The Washington DC City Council approved legislation on Tuesday that would prevent employers from firing workers who test positive for marijuana, NPR reported. The legislation must still be approved by Mayor Muriel Bowser. The “Cannabis Employment Protections Amendment Act of 2022” would also prohibit employers from firing or refusing to hire a worker because of recreational or medical marijuana use. However, there are limitations in the law, such as if an employee uses marijuana while at work.
