Online staffing provider Upwork announced Eric Gilpin joined the company as senior VP of sales, effective immediately. The role is a new position within Upwork.

Gilpin most recently led the CareerBuilder’s staffing and healthcare groups as president of vertical sales, overseeing more than $200 million in global revenue. He joined CareerBuilder in 2001 as a national account executive, based in Dallas/Fort Worth.

“We’re thrilled to have Eric join our organization,” Upwork CEO Stephane Kasriel said. “He has a deep understanding of the industry and the pain points of businesses as they try to build teams effectively to get more done, often with less resources. The way people work is evolving rapidly. Eric will play a key role in empowering businesses to tap into talent online and break through traditional hiring barriers such as finding the best people and reducing time-to-hire.”

Freelancers earn more than $1 billion annually via Upwork, according to the company.

Upwork is headquartered in Mountain View, Calif., and has offices in San Francisco and Oslo, Norway.
