The California Public Utilities Commission voted Thursday to classify Uber partially as a charter party carrier, a designation usually used for towncars or limousines, due to the existence of Uber SUV and Uber Black services, the San Francisco Examiner newspaper reported. The human cloud, ride-sharing firm’s new classification will also require it to pay fees to the CPUC going back three years, which may cost the company millions of dollars.
