Uber agrees to pay New York state drivers up to $3 million over alleged excess fees (Reuters)

January 10, 2018

A settlement agreement was reached by Uber to pay up to $3 million to settle a lawsuit brought on behalf of 2,241 drivers in the state of New York who accused the human cloud, ride-sharing firm of excessive fees, Reuters reported. Uber denied the allegations and settled without admitting wrongdoing. The settlement impacts drivers in New York who have driven since Dec. 29, 2009 and aren’t subject to arbitration. The settlement also calls for the dismissal of claims that Uber misclassified drivers as independent contractors.
