US temporary staffing hours fall 11% year over year: SIA | Bullhorn Staffing Indicator

June 13, 2023

Temporary staffing hours worked in the US fell 11% year over year in the week ended June 3, according to the latest SIA | Bullhorn Staffing Indicator report, released today.

Commercial staffing hours fell 11% year over year, while professional staffing hours were down 9%.

The trend of decreasing hours worked is directionally consistent with the decline in temporary help employment, according to data from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. However, despite the June 2023 US Jobs Report indicating temporary help employment increased in May, SIA noted that temporary help employment remains elevated against its pre-pandemic history. Regarding the outlook for full-year 2023, SIA projects a modest decline in commercial staffing and mixed trends in professional staffing in terms of market size.
