US manufacturing expands in May, but pace still sluggish

June 01, 2016

The US manufacturing sector expanded at a faster rate in May than April, but the pace remained relatively sluggish, MarketWatch reported. The Institute for Supply Management’s manufacturing index rose to a reading of 51.3% in May from 50.8% in April. The improvement in the index “came almost entirely in how fast companies delivered goods to buyers,” according to MarketWatch. That’s not necessarily good because faster delivers can mean companies aren’t seeing enough demand.
