Three in 10 workers to seek new jobs; résumé length less important, Accountemps says

January 18, 2018

Approximately three in 10 workers, 29%, plan to look for a new job in the next 12 months, according to a survey by Accountemps, a division of Robert Half International Inc. (NYSE: RHI). Los Angeles had the highest percentage of workers planning to seek new jobs, 40%, among the 27 markets surveyed.

The survey included more than 2,700 workers and 300 HR managers at companies with 20 or more employees.

Of the HR managers surveyed, 46% said a one-page résumé was the ideal length for staff-level candidates while 47% said two pages was ideal. Ten years ago, managers were more likely to want just one page. Looking at executive roles, 50% of managers cited two pages as acceptable while 21% were most receptive to one page.

More than half of managers, 56%, said a candidate’s online profile is equally as important as the résumé. And 80% said they take “thank you” messages into consideration when deciding whom to hire; however, only 24% of applicants send such messages. In addition, 33% said they removed a candidate because he or she was too pushy after an interview.
