Temp staffing hours fall 7% in week ended Jan. 7

January 17, 2023

Temporary staffing hours worked fell 7% year over year in the week ended Jan. 7, according to the SIA | Bullhorn Staffing Indicator released today.

Starting today, the SIA | Bullhorn Staffing Indicator will publish each Tuesday (instead of Friday, as it had in the past) and will report on business activity for the week ended 10 days prior.

Looking at this week’s report, commercial staffing hours fell 9% year over year while professional staffing hours fell 3%.

A decreasing trend is in line with the January US Jobs Report and suggests some degree of pullback in the volume of the US staffing industry.

“Such a pullback is not surprising given the record volume levels achieved in some segments of staffing this year and in the face of current headwinds such as inflation, rising interest rates and general economic slowing,” the report stated.

The change in the indicator was made to provide the most recent data possible while also helping to ensure the completeness of data collected to maximize the level of accuracy in the statistics provided.
