SuperShuttle sues California over independent contractor status, report says

May 12, 2016

Airport ground transportation company SuperShuttle is suing to defend its model of classifying independent contractors as employees, the Los Angeles Times reports. The company shifted to the independent contractor model after Sept. 11, 2001, but it has come under fire from several lawsuits. “It’s not about the money,” the newspaper quotes Alan Moldawer, general counsel for SuperShuttle’s parent company. “It’s about the [California Employment Development Department’s] effort and desire to eliminate the independent contractor status in the state of California.”
