State arrests staffing agency nurse for working without license

October 15, 2018

A woman working for a Rochester, NY, nurse staffing agency was arrested and charged with grand larceny and working with a suspended license, Attorney General Barbara Underwood announced last week.

The New York State Office of Professional Discipline had suspended Asmeret Yohannes’ state nursing license back on Oct. 4, 2017; however, the felony complaint alleges she then worked for WorkFit Staffing, an agency that provides contract nursing services to local healthcare providers. Yohannes allegedly accepted assignments to work at Wesley Gardens Nursing Home in Rochester from Oct. 7, 2017, to Jan. 7, 2018, and received more than $20,000 in salary from WorkFit.

The complaint charges Yohannes with grand larceny in the third degree, a class D felony, and unauthorized practice of a profession, a class E felony. If convicted of the top count and sentenced to prison, she faces an indeterminate sentence of a minimum of 1.5 to three years and a maximum of 3.5 to seven years.
