Staffing hours worked up 2% year over year, rebound from post-Independence Day dip

July 29, 2022

Hours worked in the US staffing industry rose 2% year over year in the week ended July 23, driven by higher demand for professional staffing services, according to the latest SIA | Bullhorn Staffing Indicator, released today.

Hours were up 5.5% week over week, recovering from the Independence Day dip.

Week ending July 23, 2022 Indexed value Year over year Week over week
US staffing 104 +2% +5.5%
Commercial staffing 89 -1% +6.5%
Professional staffing 137 +11% +3.1%

The SIA | Bullhorn Staffing Indicator measures hours worked. It comprises two sets of analyses: a year-over-year comparison showing how the most recent week compared to the same week 12 months previously and an indexed value that has been benchmarked against data from the week ended Jan. 19, 2019.

User data from Bullhorn’s Peoplenet, a timekeeping software provider, was added to the indicator this week — effectively added as of last week in terms of data processing. The data points for the previous two weeks were revised.

In the week ended July 23, the index value was 104, following readings of 98 and 97 in the prior two weeks as revised.
