Staffing hours worked rise 1%, but professional staffing posts slowest growth since November 2020

September 30, 2022

Hours worked in the US staffing industry rose 1% year over year in the week ended Sept. 24, according to the SIA | Bullhorn Staffing Indicator, released today. However, professional staffing hours were up 3% year over year, the slowest growth rate since November 2020. The report also noted year-over-year growth rate values for professional staffing hours have slowed every week since the recent high of 15% recorded in mid-August.

Commercial staffing hours were stable following a spell of negative year-over-year growth that started in mid-June.

US staffing                               105 +1% +3.4%
Commercial staffing 91 0% +3.6%

The SIA | Bullhorn Staffing Indicator measures hours worked. It comprises two sets of analyses: a year-over-year comparison showing how the most recent week compared to the same week 12 months previously and an indexed value that has been benchmarked against data from the week ended Jan. 19, 2019.

The index value was 105 in the week ended Sept. 24, following readings of 102 and 100 in the prior two weeks as revised.
